March Favourites/Quarantine Recommendations- Cer
Hi guys! It has been a while since we used this blog but since we are both self-isolating we have decided we can once again be active on this blog. We thought it would be great to share our new obsessions this month since consuming media is the only thing keeping us sane during these tough days. So here goes my favourite pieces of art this month, and I truly recommend you all to check them out!!!
This month I really got obsessed with Ben Platt(you might know him from Dear Evan Hansen or Pitch Perfect) and I have listened to the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack for the first time, but I have to say my absolute favourite album to listen to this month has been Ben Platt's Sing to Me Instead. It is an album relying heavily on Ben Platt's magical voice and the calming sound of the piano. My favourite song on the album is Bad Habit but the entirety of the album is pure gold and you can listen to it on repeat for forever, best part is that you will probably have a great cry and who doesn't need one of those during these trying times? The album is very cohesive and tells one beautiful story that very clearly draws inspiration from Ben's personal experiences. It is a very universal, relatable album so just check it out!
My favourite TV show this month also has Ben Platt in it, which is The Politician. The Politician is Ryan Murphy's(creator of Glee, American Horror Story, Scream Queens) latest TV series and though the show came out late 2019, I only just got around to watching it. The show follows Payton Hobart, a young man who is determined to become the president of the United States. The show is unique in it's tone and it's depiction of queerness as a fluid part of everyone, a part that does not require explaining or labeling. Ben Platt's portrayal of Payton, a crazily ambitious character, is intense and beautiful and he makes us like the character through his vulnerability. I stayed up all night watching this show and I recommend you do the same.
My movie recommendation is not exactly a movie, but a musical filmed for television. I watched Jesus Christ Superstar starring John Legend, Sara Barailles and Alice Cooper. The musical on it's own is pure perfection but the massive set they used for this televised version was really impressive. I haven't seen a production of this show other than the televised version but I can say that despite John Legend's shortcomings as a singer the show in general was a joy to watch with the choreography and Judas's beautiful voice. Don't get me wrong, I love John Legend but this show really did not work well in his range. Nevertheless I recommend you watch this musical and if it's not available for streaming where you live, at least listen to the soundtrack because Andrew Lloyd Webber's work is always the best.
My final recommendation will be a book, which is Haruki Murakami's 1Q84. I have yet to finish this book, which is very long so it's a huge undertaking, but the story is captivating. You never really know how the plot is gonna turn out even when you feel like you understand what's happening. Murakami is one of Tui's favourite author, if not her favourite, so I'm reading some of his books and I can easily recommend all of his books. His writing is genius and thrilling. Please check out at least one of his shorter books, you will be hooked!
I will recommend a few more things without further explaining them to keep this post a little shorter. I recommend you watch Simplynailogical on Youtube, she has a really good sense of humour and makes very different content. I also recommend Netflix's Self Made, it's great representation and a great story in my opinion.
Thank you all for reading about all these stuff that I love so much, please don't hesitate to tell us about your favourites this month and what you have been upto during your self-isolation. Tui will be posting her favourites as well. I really hope you check out some of the things I mentioned, please let me know if you like them as much as me!!!
